    Problems with Verizon

Apparently when you file BK Verizon moves you to a new account number once they receive notification. I had no warning they were going to do this. Well the other day I received a bill in the mail showing a credit balance. I inquired about when they were going to apply that credit balance to my new account and they basically said they weren't and I'm out the $72. How is this legal? Is it legal? I'm waiting on a response back from my attorney, but thought maybe someone here had first hand knowledge of this situation.

Wouldnt that $72 belong to the estate?

odd, we had absolutely no interruption with our verizon account which we have had for over 16 years. nothing. we still get a 20% discount when one of use use to so some work for them...they even let us keep that.

i guess the difference was, we never listed them.

I was under the impression I had to since I had just renewed a contract and indicated I was going to continue with that. I didn't know they were going to move me to a different account number and take some of my money.

Did you speak to someone who specifically works in the BK Department at Verizon?

We had exactly the same experience as Tobee, including a discount from previous employer. We did not list them either and have never been late on their bill. No change to our account at all.

Not yet. Most companies would have transferred the funds automatically. Seems like a no brainer.

Not to a CSR who has no clue about a BK.

Pandora posted the info in another post about Verizon a bit back - let me see if I can find it.

we never had any problems or issues with our verizon wireless account either, perhaps because we didn't list them since we were current and planned to continue our service with them.

I just wanted to add that my guess is, your account is sort of froze right now, and once your BK is discharged, they will then apply that credit to your bill. I know that once you file and they get notified the automatic stay is in effect and I am assuming that by law they can't give it to you if you've just filed BK. I don't think that means you won't eventually get it, because you probably will once the BK is discharged. Again just my thoughts---but I am not an attorney! lol!

We were off contract - on month-to-month - and current with our payments so we did not list them per our lawyer's advice.

Our service has not changed at all (other than at our request) in the almost 2+ years since we filed.

We didn't list ours either. We were out of contract and current. We also receive a 20% discount and continue to do so. We've had no interruption of service.

Best of luck to you in this. Please let us know how it turns out.

Well I got an email back from my attorney and she said she was shocked by Verizon's response and she's doing some research on it. Still can't understand how this could be legal.

Thanks. Haven't had time to contact them by phone yet. Didn't want to make that call from work. I did get another email response today saying they hadn't finished everything with my account yet. Although I would have thought they'd be more responsible to finish everything before they come back with a response stating I'm not getting my money back. I got that bill over a week ago.
