I give $150 a month to my 70yr old mom for her meds. How do I put this down????

Ok found another expense. I give my mom $150 a month for her meds and expenses. What information would a trustee ask from her or me???
Is it worth it to use her as an expense or should I just bite it and leave it out.

It's $150.00 per month and it does add up. I would list it as an expense. If you are questioned, you are helping to support your mother.

There was a question two or three years ago, where a couple was getting ready to file--I do not remember the chapter, but I think it was a Ch7. The wife was a naturalized citizen originally from the Philippines, and they sent money every month to her elderly parents still living in the Philippines. I do not remember them having a problem with that. I'll try to find it...

ETA: I found the thread. Here it is:

I believe this would be one of the most important expenses, and I doubt a Trustee would object and I am near certain no bk Judge would deny this of you. Keep that as your number one priority. They aren't forever. Do your obligation with no thought of remorse. It is not what we do that matters in the end. It is what we fail to do that we regret. 'Hub

To add to the above advice: If that $150 a month would make no real difference on your ability to otherwise receive a Ch 7 discharge, I doubt that anyone would even question it. If, for some strange reason they do, the worst case scenario would be that you would have to show the $$$ as an ongoing expense for the last 6-12 months, and possibly an affidavit from Mom - but I couldn't imagine that this would even be an issue unless it was one of many issues in your filing.

Since I imagine that it will show up on your bank statement, it is better to claim the expense rather than get questioned about a mysterious $150 debit every month. Nothing to hide. I believe we ALL owe Mom a lot more than $150/mo for all the grief we caused her between the ages of 12 and 20.

Be careful, lvmcse, the similar link below the thread shows you doing a bit more for your dad, why should mom be worth less? ;)

Sorry about that. I give to mom and dad pays the bills. Also supported a son. Just want to know if this was a valid expense while I try to prepare.

The consensus of all above show that whether Dad, Mom, both, all, need that money. That is if total it is not 150 each. I don't see an issue being made. You take care of your own above all else. 'Hub
