If you use a Debit Card, PACER will automatically give you access. You can surf it as long as you stay logged in. But if you log out or sign off, you can't get back in until you get the password and ID sent to you.
Also, and this may only be by using a Debit Card, you can have your ID and password emailed to you. It will come within 24 hours of registering.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

8 cents per page downloaded. Doesn't sound like much, but be careful when downloading entire cases. At 30+ pages, you will pay 2-3$ EACH time you look at them. Some people end up with hundreds of dollars in pacer bills. My advice, is to only look at certain pages. Case summary, deadlines/hearings, docket report, history/documents, and status. These are the only 5 links I would look at to see up to date info. At 1-2 pages each, these don't add up to much. If you can keep your total pacer usage under 10$, it is indefinately deferred so you would never have to pay it.

You're gonna be looking for your BF's Case, so it's easy for you to find the docs. You can search by Soc Sec #. You can also save the docs on your computer. They're .pdf files. If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you're all set to go.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

if you use pacer and want to be on a budget I would suggest keeping a log of usage. pacer will report the cost of each page view and if you take the time to write it down during each session you will be able to get an idea of the approximate amount you are spending. the transactional histories from pacer are usually only updated at the end of each nonth/quarter.

PACER musta updated it's billing reporting recently. It seems to be more "real" time than it used to be. I went forever with a $0 balance until it suddenly showed accurately.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06
