Gets worse, Doctor informed me that I need surgery. Should I file before or after??

Boy oh boy. When it rains, it pours. Went to the Doctor today, I have an ankle problem that requires surgery lol. Doctor said I would need to stay off it for 4 months. Should I file before or after BK. My medical bills are covered by my insurance 100%. So there is nothing to add to the bk petition.

As always, thank you to everyone whom has answered my questions.

I'd wait until after the surgery to file. Don't mean to be a downer but just in case there are unforseen complications that run the bill far higer than expected and your insurance will only pay a portion.

I agree, unless there are other pressing reasons to file before I would wait until after not only the surgery but any physical therapy afterwords. I would not trust that the insurance will cover it at 100% until I see the bills (remember that just because you are not charged at time of service does not mean that the dr/hospital/anesthesiologist/physical therapist/... cannot come back and bill you because something wasn't actually covered. I would confirm that they get paid by the insurance before filing if possible... just in case.

I agree with the others as well. Part of our BK was medical--leftover bills from 'HUb's prostate cancer surgery in 2004; an accident August 2007 where I fell and broke my right arm and lleft knee; and 'Hub's November 2007 accident with a skil-saw that treated him to a life-flight to the nearest trauma hospital...
