It's a generational thing, it seems very difficult for the early baby-boomers to file BK. So they come up with whatever excuse they can to avoid it, even to the point of cutting off their nose to spite their face. I get that.

As far as a Statute of Limitations... while they do exist, the hard truth is that you - the common, everyday poor schlub (like me) - has to be the one to make all the noise, file all the lawsuits, produce all of the paperwork, draw out the timeline, connect all the dots, present all the evidence, and make all the court appearances (ALL of them) in order to get a SOL enforced and a collection stopped. I believe that is why they call it an SOL.

An SOL is mighty difficult to enforce before it has expired. The only ways to enforce an SOL are to wait and see if the creditors "play nice" and go away when the time is up, or to pound nails in them when they do not. Either way is a pretty big leap of faith that will cost you a lot of lost sleep (at best) and possibly an avalanche of collections, lawsuits, garnishments, etc (at worst).

The Magic Broom of Ch 7 sweep them all away.
