Received money from parents for being family caregiver - will it count against me?

I have been taking care of my parents for awhile now and recently received a small lump sum for helping them. My Dad knows I am broke, but has no idea I am close to filing bankruptcy. We have no formal contract, but everyone knows I am the main caregiver. Will receiving money from family under these circumstances cause a problem when filing bankruptcy?

peach, welcome to the forum.

if you are filing bk are you living with your parents? because many times you have to include all income of the household.

also, what was you income for the year and how does this money effect your means test? you still may qualify for what type of chapter you are aiming if it does not effect your means tests in a negative way.
have you seen any atty's for a few free consults to see exactly how you stand with your present circumstances?

Thanks so much - I finally saw an attorney for a free consult and I feel alot better. He answered my long list of questions and I need to get alot of things in order to prepare for filing in a few months. Thanks for your response. I was just nervous as a cat before I saw the attorney worrying about lots of different issues. This forum is great place for support and to learn from others.
