Life after BK7 can be pretty good!

Haven't posted in a few months, got our discharge in early February. We were able to exempt some cash because we were able to use Federal exemptions. With the cash we have saved since, and our rental income from our foreclosure properties in Ohio, we took $20,000 and bought a foreclosed mobile home! Granted, it ain't purty, but roof, walls and floors are sound. It is 1150 square feet, on a half acre of land, in a country setting, near a large recreational lake here. It needs carpet, paint, new fixtures, lots of TLC. But if I had bought a place that didn't need those things, I would probably have changed them anyway, lol. We will save the $1300 we were paying on rent, plus we are getting $2200 in rent until the rental properties are foreclosed on.

So goodbye to the almost $450,000 in mortgages on our home and rentals in OH, and hello to no house payment! I have had the nice home with it's nice mortgage, and I am so done with that! I will take my little place in the country and quietly enjoy life with no stress. Now I can focus on becoming a Prepper for the coming Zombie Apocalypse, lol. Thanks so much to all on this board who have helped me on my journey, and hope everyone finds the happiness we have found after BK7!!!

So happy to hear from you and most of all that you are in a better place in life! We just rec'd our discharge/close yesterday (yeah!!!) and are so looking forward to the simple life. We too have the rental in Ohio which will be foreclosed upon at some point (BOA yuk), we no longer have a tenant in it but feels so good to not owe on it. We too had $500,000 in mortgages between the rental and our home here, it feels incredible to be done with it. We actually are excited about renting for a while (a long while) and not be owned by the banks.

Thank you for your help when I was just beginning this journey last year and the best of luck to you and your family!

ValleYum, thanks so much! And even tho I was kidding about the ZA, I am not kidding about becoming a "Prepper", sort of. I mean, I won't qualify to be on a TV show about my obsession, but we do plan to start getting more supplies on hand. Having several months of food stored would be welcome in a time of layoffs or slow work periods. I have read quite a bit about what happened after Hurricane Katrina recently, and don't really want to rely on the government for food and shelter. We now have a paid for home, so once we have supplies we will work on solar/wind power to get off the grid. And it will all be paid for, no debt. DH even recently acquired a pistol, for protection. Wow, I do sound kinda crazy, don't I? Lol

Drazil, I didn't even realize I had done anything to help you, I thought YOU helped me, lol. Congrats on your discharge, are you still asking yourself "Is it over? Is it really OVER?" I actually wish my two banks would take as long as possible to foreclose, since it is bringing me $2200 a month. However, Chase and Citimortgage seem to have lit a fire under my little foreclosures. They are both going thru the same foreclosure mill law office out of Cincinnati, and they are ramping up to start again now that the stay is lifted. They did send me paperwork to fill out to modify the loans, but I am afraid I would somehow accidentally recommit myself to paying the discharged loans off, lol. I would love to string them along for a few months thinking I was going to reinstate the loan, but I keep thinking "pig=fat, hog=slaughter", lol. Best wishes for my fellow North Carolinians!

Hey Tobee, I knew you would be chiming in! As I told ValleYum, I may make gardening a part of my "prepping", if I can just remember how. I grew up on a family farm, we had a huge vegetable garden and strawberry patch big enough to sell from, and we had chickens. It was my grandparent's farm and we lived on another house on the property. Grandpa had horses, cows, and pigs. 18 years spent doing planting, gardening, livestock caring. 36 years later, I haven't the faintest idea how to go about any of it, lol. Thank God for the internet! Thanks for being such a great cheerleader on this board!

Thanks Pandora, keeping up with the Joneses is way overrated. In fact, as we are new to the area, we don't know any Joneses, so there is NO ONE to impress, lol! I highly recommend it!

                          SS.....that is soooo awesome.

I grew up with my step-father being a master gardener and I stayed as far away from the garden as I could (pretty dumb). Right now DH & I have a little green house and had tomatoes growing in there all last summer. Left some of the tomatoes on the ground and the seeds are starting all new plants. Just finished picking tomatoes from last yrs plants.

I'm learning stuff from the internet that I should have learned from stepfather.
My mom is still in shock that I get dirt under my fingernails (something other than wallpaper paste)

The local extension office here in Roseburg has a master gardener program that you can join. Learning from others and then give back your time to the community.
Again....glad you are lovin that new life...strawberry, good for you!!

SS, I'm pleased as punch with your succeSS. Also since you have learned what we practice, (I always believed, bk imbedded it.) that is, when you lean against another (not including family) you then are leaning away from independence ans security.

What is security? It is FREEDOM by independence. Today we are seeing our Country in True CHANGE, with little HOPE. I've never been so concerned since the invent of "Mother Earth News" era of Jimmae Carter. (pronounce ae as a).

He at least was a super Christian, but a "New World-er", and Trilateral, and an Ostrich. His replica is a da@$mned commie/Socialist/Muslim. If not in fact, in practice. OOoops, not to turn political, but..............Why are Preppers, Prepping? Answer: FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS. (it will get you by when the thought police come).

Anyway, before I get a whap on my bippy, I just applause so many who would rather prepare for the worse, and wish for the best. I'll bet many bk'ers would love to have had a stockpile aside of soaps, foods, paper products (toilet paper?) when the "old man" lost his career job at age 55 as I did.

In closing I say, "Viva la revolution". (It means in commie, "Don't Tread on me.) 'Hub
