Hi Everyone,
I've been one year post discharge and wanted to share in case people are worried their lives are over after BK....it isn't and really is a true fresh start:
November 2010 - Discharge FICO 515
February 2011 - Started new job after 1-year unemployment, qualified for 1st credit card (crappy terms); FICO 550
May 2011 - Qualified for 2nd Credit Card (not as crappy terms); FICO 600
December 2011 - Approved for First Apartment since BK; FICO 652 (though had to double security deposit).
A couple of new tips I follow:
1. I watch my credit report religiously
2. I'm rather anal about paying off balances in full as soon as it posts (I don't charge more than $50-100 per month).
I'm sharing because I was nervous about filling; but despite the skeleton in the closet following me everywhere I go; I've learned to mange with it and it really is giving me new opportunities to start fresh. I have no regrets about filing.
Good luck to everyone and best wishes for the holiday.
