The choice of attorney is so crucial.
yes, i think nowadays every atty's who's "regular" practice has dropped off ( ie real estate attys, civil attys) has hung a bk atty shingle our their door.

i think while they may have been excellent in their area or field of expertise, they are attempting to go where the money is. after all, it's difficult to get billable hours paid when clients simply can no longer pay.

look at a firm, lets say that their volume of business was real estate closings, while they may have civil or trial atty's in that firm, i have seen very few that also do bankruptcies. not to say they can't, it's just never had been their field. and, how would a potential client know this when then come in for their consult so scared and upset.

bottom line it is one of the most important decisions one makes after deciding to actually file. and i very much agree a GREAT souce of stress for many!!

We have it narrowed down to 2 attorneys, and think we will go with a fairly young attorney who spent 1 1/2 hours with me at the free consultation. She states that she handles everything herself, and has been very responsive to our emails, etc. Her rates are about par, although if we go with a 13, probably a little higher ($1,500 for Ch 7, $3500 for ch 13). I feel her "holding our hands" through this will help a lot no matter which one we finally end up in.

Thanks for the post, it really helped.
good luck to you! she sounds similar to the one we chose, and have no regets!
