how exactly does the Marital Adjustment work when the non-working spouse is the filer

I'm a bit confused about the marital adjustment. Maybe if I give you the scenario you could explain how this works. My wife is filing for bankruptcy. She is unemployed. Only her debts are in the bk. In the means test (Form 22a) her income is listed as $0 since she's unemployed but it asks for spouses income since we live in the same household. I make 6k per month. Once my income is used, she doesn't qualify for a chapter 7. I know that we can use the Marital Adjustment to reduce DMI, but what exactly does that mean? I basically pay the mortgage, utilities, car payment...everything. What exactly is the marital adjustment? Money that she would have to make to pay her bills? Income of mine that goes to pay her bills? I'm really confused about this. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
