    Discharged!!!!!

    First Post

So my bankruptcy was discharged about a 3 weeks ago and yesterday I checked all three credit bureaus to make sure everything was accurate. It was so nice to see $0 balance on all my accounts and that everything stated charge off or discharged. I did notice something strange but good I guess. When I filed for bankruptcy I noticed that my student loan bill stopped appearing at my house and they stopped calling which I thought was weird since my lawyer said that my students weren't dis-chargeable. So my credit report shows on all 3 bureaus that my student loans are wiped clean but I didn't submit a hardship letter or anything for them. Would the trustee or judge decide to do that themselves?

      CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

(Student loans - no alas they're still there - they just cannot bill you until discharge and the automatic stay was lifted. They may have returned them to whatever guarantee agency had guaranteed it.

You can try if you want to consolidate them with Dept of Ed, and you can try income based and/or 30 year repayment to get monthly payment lower...)

So what you are saying is that I will start receiving bills again for them. My loans were with Sallie Mae and it states discharged by Chap 7 on all three credit reports. I'm not sure who the loans will go back to by I'm guessing the US as they are federal loans. Is it normal for them to say discharged on the credit reports?

Yes - others on this board have seen the same as you - the loan does not go away...if you are on good terms with sallie mae, call them and ask...they'll tell you if a) you are still being "billed", b) if they transferred to loan to the guarantee agency.

But man, I wish it were not so!

Congrats on the discharge! Be sure and check on those loans, they did not get discharged and you don't want late fees, interest accruing!
