Continuing to pay the mortgage question

I looked at PACER and we're officially a no asset case. Yeah! We're remaining in the house. We got a letter giving us a new address to send payments to. Will we always be sending payments to this address from here on out or will we be able to go back to online paying at some time?

Interesting question. I too am keeping my house with Wells Fargo as the mortgage holder. So far, they have sent me no correspondence but have continued to let me pay online. Are your taxes in escrow? If so, did the letter state anything? Wondering because I just forwarded my prop. taxes to them for payment and have no idea wether they will pay them.

I hope WF continues to let me use the online account. My lawyer suggested if they close it I should call and ask them to reinstate access.

Will be looking to see what some of the experts may reply as I am curious too.

They've closed the online payment option for me and sent a letter stating the BK department would be handling my account. I'm not going to do anything else for the moment, but maybe after we're discharged I'll call and see if we can't have that reinstated. It sure is a lot easier!

Our online pay capability was reinstated approx. 4 - 6 months after discharge. We did not reaffirm, "stay & pay". I asked that it be reinstated shortly after discharge and was told it would be impossible, then one day it just magically reappeared. We are with one west bank (used to be indymac)

We also have WF and never lost our online access at all thru the whole process.

BofA reinstated mine a month or so after they received the discharge papers...that I had to send in twice, of course. Rather than uise snail mail during the interim, I paid them through the bill payer function on my checking account...no postage, no auto pays just enter the amount and send.

Glad to see others have had it reinstated. Guess I'll try that after discharge.
                Thanks!

We filed Ch 7 in March 2011 and shortly thereafter Wells Fargo sent a letter indicating that our automatic payments would be terminated but could be set up again. We were current with WF at the time we filed. I sent a payment to them by check but recently set up electronic payment capability on their website. They also made my first property tax payment in June from escrow.

Thanks for the info. on the property tax payment, that's what I needed to hear. I have never gotten anything in the mail but WF continues to let me pay online.

Send your payments to the address you recently received. Many banks have a separate department for dealing with BK filings. Sending to that address should ensure your payment is credited in a timely fashion. The address will likely change again after discharge, so watch for it.

If there is any doubt, call your bank, and expect to be routed to their BK department until your BK has closed.
