I don't think there is any yes or no answer to that question. If you require a security clearance for the new job, then they will find out about it. But that doesn't necessarily mean you won't get the job.
My sister in law worked for Shearson Leahman at the world trade center (and luckily it was her day off that day)...she had to take a lie detector test and they asked her if she ever smoked pot. She answered yes. She still got the job.
Bankruptcy does not make you criminal. That is what they are looking for.
I also have a friend that is way high up in the Justice Dept/Immigration. They do a credit check on him every single year because they want to see if he's horribly in debt or living beyond his means.....they want to know if he'd be a target for bribes etc.
I think it depends on the company you apply to and the position. Honesty is the best policy.

I was the Controller for the largest construction company in New York. I hired ALL of the accounting/finance staff. I wouldn't have bat an eyelash at a bankruptcy, but petty larceny or something like that -- forget about it.
I wish I could give you a more clear answer, but one thing I've learned in life, everything is negotiable and anything is possible -- and there will be some disappointments along the way.
