I was over at my moms today and she had some mail for me. I lived with her in between my divorce and when I remarried. Before I married, I had insurance through my employer, which was an HSA account. When we got married March 2010, I canceled my plan and joined my husbands plan through his work. I spent the HSA account down.. however I guess I never canceled the bank account that held it. Nothing else is going into it and hasn't in over a year now. But I still get statements at my moms house. I just happened to get it today and I opened it and looked at it. It has like $6.00 in it. And I guess that is what has been in it all this time. So, I just realized it today when I got it, but do I need to report that to my attorney? Do I need to include it? Will it be ok, just to give him the most recent statement, if so? I was just wondering. I will call tomorrow about it.. I'm still hopeful to file on Wednesday.

HSA Bank Account?

They probably won't care but list it anyway to be on the safe side. If the HSA was through a CU, the $6.00 is probably your 'Membership' share. Since it is/was an HSA, have you been hit with any income tax penalties for spending it down? Or was that issue addressed when you canceled your plan?"To go bravely forward is to invite a miracle."

I knew I was going to be switching ahead of time.. and had already told my employer.. I spent it down right before I got rid of the plan on medical related things.. so everything was legal.. I haven't spent the remainder.. I just didn't want to go into the negatives.. so it's just been left there. I've never been sure of what I should do with it. But yeah, I spent it while I still had the medical plan and only on medical stuff.
