    Pre-BK counseling was a waste of $$

    Hello;

I just did my pre-bk counseling from Money Management International and it costs me $50 bucks to know the obvious that I have no money to pay back my creditors and BK is my only option at this point. If I was in their DMP it would costs $2,040 a month for 48 months to pay off over $95K in debt. Where would that leave money to pay rent or eat? That's almost my entire monthly income. The counselor was nice, but I could have kept the $50. Now I am waiting for the certificate to come in the mail as well as a budget package. Did anyone feel that the counseling actually helped them or did it because its simply a requirement? I think that the government is pocketing some of this $$, why else only certain credit counseling agencies are approved for this counseling to file bk? I have to get ready to save the other $50 for the pre-discharge counseling class.

    50 Dollars Poorer,

    sbb
    Hooters MC: $1700
    First Premier Platinum MC: $450
Orchard Bank MC: $300 Juniper Visa :$600
    Target Card: $200 Capital One:$1500

Of course it was. My lawyer told me that right off the bat! You still have the $35 for post counseling still. I'm paying:

    $50 pre-counseling
    $1,000 lawyers fees
    $274 filing fees
    $40 credit check
$64 security deposit for my electric (on my petition)
    $35 post-counseling

    Grand total $1,463
    My credit scores:
Before Filing: Tr 496, Ex 496, Eq 507

    Today: Tr 618 (+122), Ex 601 (+105), Eq 623 (+116)

I was told if I attend the post counseling meeting on the day of the 341, in the court house, I could get it over with then and not pay. If I take it after that ,I would have to pay the fee.Sounds like a good deal to me!

NotFun, you posted this on a thread that's more than a year and a half old. As time passed after updated bk law went into effect in Oct 2005, lawyers have raised their fees due to the increased paperwork caused by the new law.

Also depending on the chapter you file, there's quite a difference between lawyer fees for Ch 7 and Ch 13.

It's against our forum rules to post to old inactive threads like this one from April 2006 - now you know why. It can bring up old, out of date information that isn't accurate any longer. Please in the future, don't post to old theads like this - thanks!

I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

          06/01/06 - Filed Ch 13
          06/28/06 - 341 Meeting
          07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections
10/05/06 - Hearing to resolve 2 trustee objections
01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
          09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made
          08/10/11 - DISCHARGED !

          10/02/11 - CASE CLOSED
Countdown: 60 months paid, 0 months to go

oh i'm sorry i didn't know there was forum rules to what you can post on, and I mean that last post was done the same day i posted.

Sorry about that, I guess filing bankruptcy on 750k, and giving back my two homes, and two cars, shuting down my business, can kind of make me a little Delusional as to where and where not to post.

            Again sorry about that!!
