I am starting to freak out. I went to my appointment with my bankruptcy attorney today to sign all the paperwork to file tomorrow. I had mentioned to him that I just paid 1000.00...all the money I had in the world to get some car repairs done. I actually got ripped off by the mechanic but that is another story. Well, he didn't really answer my question, just jumped to the next question for filing. My question for anyone here is am I at risk for getting dismissed if I paid all this money to fix my car? I am scared to death. I cannot afford to hire attorney again in 6 months to refile.....

Only a guess here, but I'd say that if you have the paperwork showing that this was a necessary repair to your only mode of transportation it shouldn't be a problem. I'm not positive on that though, like I said, just guessing. Call the attorney's office first thing in the morning and tell them you really didn't get an answer to that question today. Your attorney should know the trustees in the district and what they do or don't take issue with. I would just tell him that you wanted to be sure of that answer before he went ahead and filed the petition.Filed pro se, made it through the 341, discharged, Closed!!!

I would think if the repairs are actually needed, such as brakes, tires, etc...than there isn't much the trustee can do about it. Car repair expenses are a legitimate expense for the schedules. Now, if you went out and spent $1,000 on rims because you didn't like the old ones, that could be a problem, lol.
