Is is true that SSDI lump sum already in bank is exempt?
...or could the Trustee make an issue out of it? I owe 60k in unsecured debt. I'd like to file and get it over with, but not if the lump sum would be included in the bk estate. I don't co-mingle with other funds.
Do some searches on here and on Google but I'm pretty sure I have read that your SSI is good regardless of where it is. There was a famous case if I recall where some guy got a retro settlement of 17k and bought a cd with it (must have been some great tunes, sorry) and th ecourt ruled that SSI was SSI and therefore exempt. I'll try and find it.
Here's a great link- splains it all-just keep it separate
Thank you, Daylate. I read about that case last night on google. I just want to avoid any funds being seized or levied, even temporarily. I don't need the hassle or headache of them taking the funds, and having to battle with the Trustee to get them released.
