Did you take care of medical or dental OVER $500 less than 90 days prior to filing?

I have read so many times that taking care of medical and dental treatment prior to filing is typically "okay" or "safe". So we decided to pay for the orthodontia our 15 year old needs out of the tax refund, and THEN I find out that "over $500" can be trouble. I really wish I had known that. So now I have to wait another 90 days to file.

What if you need an operation? What if you need a dental crown, a root canal, several fillings (I was quoted $190-$300/filling depending on how large, where, etc). All things that can be documented as to being a need, but you could well wind up paying over $500.

Has anyone paid a large amount to a health care provider prior to filing and come out of that okay, or did the trustee pursue?

An operation (and the medical expense) is completely different in that it is a one time thing. I'm hoping others will chime in with their experiences for you. You did earlier state that your attorney advised against pre-paying that large of an amount for the orthodontics but you went ahead anyway with it. Seems to me that in your district your attorney would know what would be safe and what wouldn't... http://www.bkforum.com/showthread.ph...ferential-quot

The best thing you can do now is not only hear what your attorney has to say, but follow the attorneys advice. IF they say wait 90 days, then wait it out.

I'm not an attorney. My replies are merely suggestions or observations, not legal advice. As always, consult with an attorney before making any decisions.

Please stop asking the SAME question in different threads. I know you are stressed, but keeping an ongoing discussion on the same issue in multiple threads is not helping.

Your tax refund is completely exempt anyway, right? Due to the $7500 cash deposit exemption that OR has? AND your attorney has told you that it should be fine, but just wait 90 days before filing. Follow your attorney's advice, that is what you pay him for. If you can't trust what he says, then it's time to find a new attorney.
