Would paying quarterly taxes be preferential?

Before we send any money to the IRS and state (probably 900 to feds and 400 to state) from our tax refunds, that wouldn't be preferential would it? It's for the first quarter payment for 2011. Not back taxes.

I would say no. If you weren't self-employed you would still keep having taxes deducted from your paycheck. Or if you went to the dentist today and had to have a filling done, you could surely pay for that and it wouldn't be preferential. Same difference.

To be on the safe side, I'd try and keep the payments to whatever will satisfy your tax liability for 2011 not generate another large refund. The amounts you are talking about aren't huge so you may be ok.
