Non BK7 lawyer fees - can disharge?

Can fees for services owed to a lawyer be discharged like any other debt under bk7? In this case they are older fees from another matter, not bk related, the situation is amicable, the lawyer is not willing to pursue them, but a discharge would offer a final resolution and might offer the attorney some benefit like a tax write-off?

Yes they can be discharged. Not sure if it would benefit the attorney.

      Hi willdufauve,

Yup, attorney fees are discharged like any other...that is why BK attorneys want their $$ up front

Include it in the BK, best to tie up all the loose ends.

Hope you have been able to dig your way out of that last storm!

No tax write-off for the attorney, however they will not have to claim the money that you don't pay them as income.

Bankruptcy is a process, not an event.......
