Would payment to a dentist be deemed as preferential?

    Hi!

I just received a bill from our pediatric dentist for 160.00. I do not want to include him in our BK, and want to continue taking my kids to him for their dental needs. Can I go ahead and pay that bill, or should I wait because the trustee might think it is preferential treatment?

We are waiting on the appraisal on our home to be completed then we are going to file, probably by the end of February.

    Thanks for your help!

That amount should not create any problems.

      Hi Shrews,

Go ahead and pay the bill, the only way it would be preferential is if you were paying an old bill over $600.00.

"Preferential" refers to payments made to unsecured creditors, or family & friends to the detriment of other creditors. Your dentist is a health service provider. You will be ok.

I couldn't imagine anyone having a problem with paying medical bills.
