    Desperately need advice....please

    Hi everyone,
I'm in a bit of a pickle and desperately need some help. I just found out that my our (my girlfriend and I) car is needing suspension work that will cost approximately 150.00 to repair. We don't have the money to spare for this and it desperately needs to be fixed, because if it breaks, then it could put our and everyone else's safety at risk.
As many of you know, I'm still going through a chapter 7. My 341 has been completed, which was on 1/26. I'm wondering am I allowed to try to get another credit card while still going through a bankruptcy, or would I have to wait until the discharge, that is, assuming a CC company would extend me a line anyway? We'll be able to pay it off in a couple of months, so I'm not worrying about defaulting and getting back in debt. It's just that neither her, nor I, nor any family member have that money to spare. Things are just so tight and this is a very bad time for this to happen. Please help with any advise you may have. Thanks.

      Hi Scorpion,
Thank you for your advice. It occurred to me after I started this thread that the CC company would probably think that I would just charge the card, and then open up my case and try to discharge that debt. Of course, I would never do that, because that seems morally wrong to me, but they wouldn't know that.
Anyway, I'm sure we'll be fine and I appreciate your timely response. Thank you very much!

I don't think you'd be able to obtain a credit card now, either. Plus, even if someone would issue one to you, it would take a week or two to show up in your mailbox. Do either of you have anything you could list on craigslist to earn some quick cash? I'm sorry you are going through this. I was to the point that one kid had to duct tape the bottom of his show (hole in it) because there was not even $30 for shoes for him, so I know exactly where you are at. It will get better.

I'm sorry to hear about that rough time for you, Annie. It turns out we found a way to get the money for the repairs, so it looks like all is going to be well. Thank you all for your concern.

Im glad you got that worked out. Even if you could get a CC. They are the main reason why people get it trouble. CC's are Bad news. Even after you get your discharge. You should disipline yourself to remain Credit card free. Otherwise, You will be back in the same Boat in a couple years.

Thank you, and what you say is very true. Believe me, I have learned a lot from my past when it comes to credit cards and have learned a lot of discipline the hard way. The only reason I considered that was it backed us into a corner. Thankfully, we didn't have to resort to that, although, as others have pointed out, I probably wouldn't have gotten one anyway and, well, I don't know the exact rules on this, but I imagine trustees would frown on securing lines of credit anyway before discharges go through. Sounds like someone might be trying to work the system, ya know?
