Mortgage company still reporting without a reaffirmation

    All,
Today I decided to check my credit reports and see what needs to be "cleaned" up. Well I noticed that my first mortgage company is still reporting my payments even though we did not reaffirm. The other two credit reporting agencies do not show payments. Why would they continue to report? Is this normal? Also, I noticed that my second mortgage company (PNC) who I also did not reaffirm with has been checking my credit file as recently as December. Why if we were discharged would they check my file? Right now I'm getting the run around with them trying to settle but cant figure out why they would check my file? Anyone?

Creditors, especially mortgage creditors, routinely check your credit to see what's going on in your life financially. AMEX would do a soft check on my credit every single month I've been a cardholder (years and years and years). Looking at a credit report is a good way to see if there are signs of problems.

As to your specific issue, no one will ever know why one creditor continues to report, when most stop reporting solely to avoid being sued (via a complaint) or spanked for violation of the permanent discharge injunction or the automatic stay (for a case still not discharged). Since you are also trying to settle the second, they are probably checking your credit which is a normal thing in many "financing" cases anyhow.

      Hi Ann,

Is this normal? ....nothing the banks and credit bureaus do is "normal"

Well I noticed that my first mortgage company is still reporting my payments even though we did not reaffirm. The other two credit reporting agencies do not show payments. Why would they continue to report? ...they probably don't have a clue....

If you want the lender to report to the other two agencies, ask them. If you are on time, these will be nice positive contributions to your credit scores.

justbroke has the answer to the 2nd checking your report, w/ no payments coming in they want to see what is happening. In your situation it seems unneccessary, but I'll bet the people you have talked to probably never communicate w/ the people pulling the credit report.

Hang in there Ann, keep us posted!

I agree with Tom... Nothing the banks or credit bureaus do is normal or makes any sence. Our mortgage is reporting on all 3 cb as current (we are) with correct balances, etc on MY reports only, but as IIB on husbands reports with "0" balance. We filed joint C7 and discharged/closed 6 months ago.

So if I were to phone my mortgage company and tell them I have pulled my credit report and notice they are reporting to one but not all three would I have a good chance of them actually responding to my request to report to all 3? Is it legal for them to do this?

Creditors don't have to report to any credit bureau. They do so for their own benefit. There is no law compelling them to report to one, or two, or three. As a matter of fact, many creditors only report to 1 or 2 credit bureaus.
