Still Waiting to file-now may have PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease)

Hi all - Saw a lawyer last June after having been unemployed for a year and was saving the money when I got a temporary job with the city. Very little communication with lawyer at that time & when I emailed him that I was working, he emailed me back that it may change things, so I was waiting until the job ended (Jan. 14th)

In the meantime, we had a huge snowstorm and one neighbor apparently didn't realize that meant he/she had to shovel. Long story short, I fell and damanged my back.Put off going to the Dr and last week when I couldn't stand the pain anymore, I finally did. They did x-rays and discovered I had plaque build-up around my spine and along my leg. She said it looked pretty bad but they will have to do a cholesterol test (next week) and then see what that says. She said I may have to have an operation.

Currently I have re-applied for unemployment and am on MN Care, public assistance, for a health plan. I pay $75 a month for this. By the way, 57 yrs old and having a very hard time finding a job. The temp one was the 1st bite in over a year.

I haven't paid my mortgage or cc's since I saw the lawyer in June. CC's are all under $2000 so they have just been calling - nothing about taking me to court yet. Mortgages (80/20 BofA and Chase) have not started foreclosure yet. House is underwater big time - owe approx. $108,000 CMA for my neighborhood is $55-65, plus I have a $20 home improvement loan through a community center.

Now I am scared that if I start the BK - what happens if I have to have an operation? Obviously I would not be eligible for unemployment if I was laid up and to tell you the truth - I'm just really worried right now. I guess I just have to wait and see what the tests show and if I do need the operation but...if I do I'm not sure how I would survive if I paid the lawyer. That money could see me through until I was back on my feet.

Has anyone had this PAD problem? Any advice? I did talk to the lawyer today and he said to put off the bk until after the Dr's visit.
