Question about collecting money after filing Chapter 7

Hello,
I filed Chapter 7 and my discharge date was 12/15/10, still waiting for the case to close. My question is that someone owes me about $30,000...I did list this on my BK. The trustee has never said anything about the money owed to me...can I still collect this money?

Did you list this as an asset and if so, has the trustee abandoned it?

Check with your attorney or on pacer.

The 'no-asset' should be great news, report of abandon the asset would be nice, and waiting until case is closed probably prudent.

Odd to see the shoe on the other foot in a BK....let us know how this works out!

i have heard sometimes the discharge and no asset report can be as long as 2 months between the time you hear one or the other...

we didn't use pacer but BOTH the discharge order and the order of no assets came in the same envelope from the court....it was a good day!

That's a good thing. I would probably wait until the case officially closed before starting to collect monies.

yes, i would also continue to wait until you get that "closed"....order!! good luck ..it will come soon i'm sure..

I checked pacer again this morning and the case is now closed. Yipee!! The trustee report also says abondanded assets $206,500...which is the total of the assets that I listed minus my exempt assets. So is it safe to say I will be able to try to collect the $30,000 that is owed to me?
