My lawyer was pretty good. What was outstanding was that our work styles meshed perfectly. We set expectations of each other prior to initiating the relationship, and as a lot of people here can tell, my lawyer worked great with me. I really think the key was finding omeone whose work style blended with my own and accepted setting expectations up front, such as, turnaround time for email questions and answers, phone calls for emergencies, timeline for paperwork, drafts for revisions, etc.

Attorney is everything. What a fantastic one i have. I cannot speak highly enough. He has been with me every step of the way, including the 341. I had 2.3 Million in debt in an asset case, and it was very time consuming. What i liked about him best is he listened to my needs, and then wrote a 5 page summary and plan at no charge on how he would handle the case. Plus he is not a "bk mill". Others attorneys and trustees respect and trust him. That is very important.Filed Aug 28 2009

So far my attorney has been great too. He personally is a little bit short on answers (that is, gives kinda short explanations for stuff, and tends to rush through things bit), but he has been at this for many years, is not a BK mill, and really knows his stuff (also used to be a trustee). The firm he is in is very friendly, responsive, and always willing to patch in.
As others have noted, it's usually the paralegal who does the grunt work, so it's best if the firm has a great attorney-paralegel match. The paralegal has actually be the most valuable asset on my case. She is sooooo very sweet to me, and tells me I am one of her favorite clients cause i actually filled out the BK packet completely and had all the paperwork i needed on the day we came to square up on it. She said some 89% of people don't fill out but half of it and expect her to do it once they come for their meeting with her
I broke down crying in front of her last week cause it's been my last semester of grad school so i was in the middle of finals (now finished ), i had been going on 2-3 hours of sleep, and was working with her to amend some paperwork, so it all got to me. She told me it was alright, that it was normal to feel stressed, and that she would do anything she could to make sure things went as smooth as possible for me.
I could not IMAGINE doing this pro-se. This has been by far and away the best 2 grand I have spent in my lifespan. If anyone needs a lawyer reference in MD, i am happy to provide one. They are on the pricer side, but it has been worth every penny and then some! My case has some sticky issues with it, and my lawyer has made it a point to say they do everything thing they can to work in the client's best interest, legally and financially.Ch7 no asset Filed 11/23 341 12/21 discharged: 2/22/11 I am soooo totally not a lawyer, but i wish i had married one! Does that count for anything?
