    Savings account.

I just filed and have the 341 meeting on November 24th. Will I be able to open a savings account now? We are going to move to another town and need to open new accounts.

Will I have to wait until discharge?

it's really up to you...however, we still and JUST Opened one!....and we are not real comfortable until our deed is transferred out of our names.... about saving money in the "bank" ...even tho our atty says we are fine...we are still uneasy.

i would wait until at least the actual discharge...ALTHOUGH....your filing date is written in STONE at this point...it's just our paranoid attitudes, we just didn't want money in the bank at all until it was all over. but it's a personal decision...

      Ok but

Will a bank actually let me open one right now? Or a checking account?

Yes, a bank will let you open an account provided you have no Chexsystems records. If you do, then look for institutions that have a "fresh start" type of account, where they will open accounts for people with checking or savings blemishes.
        Stopped paying: 08/10, Filed CH7: 08/27/10 , 341 & No Asset Report: 10/6/10, Last day to object: 12/06/10, Discharged: 12/07/10, Closed: 12/08/10

i agree with joe, and we opened an account with a credit union...that way hopefully as time passes and be build some type of "reputation" with the bank, maybe even a car loan may be in our future...at least we are hoping so.

credit unions many times are a good way to reestablish yourself and or start back up. call a few and see what they say...never hurts.

          best of luck!

            Hi all,

We moved our checking to a small local bank, the BK was a non-issue.

And I have to brag about them a little bit; I walk through the door and hear "Hi Tom" "What are we doing today?" Robert doing the drive-up turns to wave, Karen wants to know how our granddaughter is doing, amazing place...I actually enjoy going to the Bank!

we actually opened two accounts...one at the small community bank...where the bank manager comes up and as you experience tom, we get called by our first names and made to feel like we have a million bucks in the bank...when actually we have a buck and a half...

and then the "bigger" but unknown credit union, to help us reestablish our credit hopefully in the future. we have always been with small banks! they are so much more personable and need your business much more than a boa or chase...etc.
