I just read through this whole thread (probably should have done that before opening my big fat mouth). I think you could add your daughter's visits to the special doctor back in - maybe not in the lookback if she hasn't been in the last six months, but in your schedule i or j (whichever) for your forward looking budget.

I had an ulcer too, which is finally healed. During my bk process last year it became a bleeding ulcer, and then it put me in the hospital for a few days, which finally scared me into taking care of myself mentally and emotionally. I am 11 months post discharge, and my life is so much better now. Things do get better, I promise. Your expense numbers looked very conservative to me. I think there is room to add more medical expenses, household expenses, insurance expenses and other legitimate expenses to offset any income you have to declare from the UI.

We've gone back to square one a few times, read more, recalculated, read more, reconsidered and so on. There may be ways you can improve your family's security and fare better on the means test - term life insurance for both parents (more coverage, longer period), reassess your home & car insurance policies (lower deductible, increase coverage), are you tracking biannual dental visits for teeth cleaning for everyone in the family? annual check-ups for everyone? specials women's visits? endocrinology appointments? glucose tabs? Glucagon injectables if you use those? alcohol wipes? can you increase your medical coverage at work? have you ever considered continuous glucose monitoring for your type 1 child? That runs $350 per month from medtronic minimed, is an rx and therefore a medical deduction and provides peace of mind as well. We're also over the median for our area but after some adjustments that I feel really good about (better for the family) we passed the means test. Keep looking/thinking/crunching.

Things will get better. You are taking positive steps to make a better future for yourself and your family.

On the expenses front, I think that you are underestimating your medical expenses. I also think that there are other insurance and living expense items that will offset your income as I said earlier. Go through all that you truly spent on medical, insurance and living expenses and my guess is, that you will have quite a few expenses that you have not itemized and accounted for yet.

Tobee, I just love your posts...I felt bad that I had to keep her home but my diabetic son needed his supply of insulin that I though had already been purchased, so that was an extra $187 gone that I needed for shoes and food.

When my little one told my uncle, he felt so bad and was mad that I did not call and ask for help. That is not how I'm wired my dad taught me to be independant and not depned on others. My dads brother sent us gift cards in todays mail for Target, Kroger, Sams Club, Macy's and Finish Line to buy clothes and shoes for the kids. My uncle said by sending gift card's I could'nt say no and that way he could help us. He said these are early Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter and New Year gifts for the kids. God love him...

oh...and the insultin....by daughter was carrying my grandson...she needed 9 NINE shots a day....they didn't have the money and we were on the verge or fianancial ruin. but we made sure she got her meds..... our kids....??? but what do we do...they have to come first...just my belief. and apparently yours too. many people i know, don't feel that way. we even argue in this house about it. but i can't help it. and i will never change.

Gift CARDS....love them so nice your dad's brother sent them, i'm certain they are being used well. you know ...my daughter just moved about 7 hours away from us....i wasn't going "empty" handed to i filled the car with as much food as we could carry..LOL!!!! sometimes you just need to let family HELP...that's what family really is supposed to be about.

The gift cards really threw me for a loop, when I called him in CA he just said that this is what family is for. He said since him and his wife never had kids, I'm just like thier child and since only one of my kids was born when my father died, he said my babies were now like his grandkids and it was his duty to ensure that everyone was ok. I lost it at that point and just knowing that he cared so much was a ring of comfort around me.

i just know where you are coming from which is the heart...never gets us far in life....but it gets us into the door of Heaven...one would hope...LOL!!! after all we deserve something...other than love, a roof over our heads and people that love us...

Why are you including the 401K repayment and the Equity payment? I thought the 401K repayment had to be backed out and couldnt be included as a expense to offset your income on the budget? Same thing with the equity payment - are you planning on continuing to pay that after BK? If not, I dont believe you count it
