Sorry Starman- dont ever feel alone. You are like alot of us. A victim of the economy. The first step is to admit you have a problem which always seems to be the hardest as most of us sit in denial hoping things will change and thinking the fix is just around the corner. I would suggest taking advantage of some free consultations with BK attorneys in your area to see what your options are. In most cases, they will let you make some type of payment to retain them. If you have to sell a couple things to get the money up, it may be something to look at. Also, you may qualify to make payment plans on your filing fees. Some of us decided to file pro se (without an attorney). It takes alot of time and dedication and alot of research. If this is not your cup of tea, take a deep breath and look around. We all have something we can live without. The key is to keep as much as you can throughout the process.

You have come to the right place. I am new here and am addicted. The people here in most cases are here to help. There are some very knowledgeable people here as well as supportive friends. For the most part, most of us are in or have been in your exact position. You are not alone here.

Keep you chin up and stay positive. Vent when you need to and keep your mind open to all possibilities.

    Good luck my friend.

Sorry to hear about your situation. You've come to the right place. In addition to what nfreeze suggested, you may also want to look into legal aid in the Boston area. Since you have been unemployed for some time there is a good chance you would qualify for free or low cost legal services. I don't know if they handle bks, but it may be worth a call. Another option is to check the universities in your area that have law programs. Given that your in Boston, you probably have a few to choose from. Many times law schools have a legal clinic that offer low cost services to the public. I don't know if they handle bks, but it may be an option.

You may want to check out the Pro Se section on this forum to learn more about filing without an attorney. If your case is simple and you are willing to learn about the process, then it may be a good option.

As for the calls, I turned my ringer off and that made it much easier, at least it gave me some peace and quiet.

Hang in there it does get better. Good luck to you.

starman, in addition to nfreeze and toons above, I am concerned about your ability to support yourself post-bk. Filing bk will not solve your cash flow problem, and unemployment only takes you so far. I'd be weary of filing bk without a means to support myself under a fresh start. Think about it.

        Good luck
        Stopped paying: 08/10, Filed CH7: 08/27/10 , 341 & No Asset Report: 10/6/10, Last day to object: 12/06/10, Discharged: 12/07/10, Closed: 12/08/10

This! I know it's a horrible situation, believe me we have all been through it. However, after 8 months you need to be doing something......delivering pizzas, whatever. BK, as mentioned, does nothing to make you money. It is likely your only option to get out of the mess, but without an income it's pointless. You are just about judgement proof, so it may be better to just go into default. Check around the area, you can probably find a lawyer that will get you started for $100. That will put them on retainer until you can get your paperwork together and save up additional monies. As soon as you put them on retainer you can tell your creditors to fly a kite and call your lawyer. That in itself takes some stress off.

          Good luck!

First off change your phone number and make it unlisted. Mass. is an ok state to file in as compared to some of the stories I hear out of Florida for example. I got the impression they get through uncomplicated cases with expediency.
