For exemptions, I have some conflicting info, which may be helpful. i moved from a state without fed exemptions to another state without fed exemptions. since i haven't been here 2 years, per BAPCPA i have to use my old state exemptions. but get this, in virtually every state, only residents get exemptions. under bapcpa, if the effect of not allowing you the new state's exemptions would mean that you would not have any exemptions, you get the federal exemptions. YAY

however, note that not as stated above you do need to be in the new jurisdiction for a minimum time period before you file -- that is a venue rule and not related to exemptions.

i would definitely file after you move. exemptions is really the least of your worries there. you will need a new place to live, and renting in the course of an active, pre-discharge bankruptcy could be difficult.
