So I researched a judgment against me and it's not even on the Court's website? Any thoughts? Porfolio Recovery and Cohen & Slamowitz filed it. It's a default judgment, which I didn't even know that I was supposed to be in court. Honestly, they served me and I answered, but no other notices.

You might have been hoodwinked. Those papers they had you sign, they might have been an answer to the court admitting the debt Court gets these, files the default judgement.

OR

They screwed up and haven't really got a judgement, or they are trying to get you to pay up by threatening a judgement.

EITHER WAY,

Become friends with the county clerk/recorder. They should have record of any judgement or will know where the judgment was filed.

How'd you know? LOL. Filed yesterday. It's nice telling them to talk to my lawyer. This one woman had the nerve to ask "and they let you file with the house." I said "talk to my lawyer." The nerve!

Hi drowning123,

Judgements have a big negative impact on credit scores, so if they really do have a default judgement you need to know what court it was filed in and the case #. (judgements are usually filed in county-level courts)

List on your BK petition (statement of fin. affairs line 4)
Send the BK notice to the court where the judgement was entered.
After your BK case closes, go to the court and get the judgement vacated.
(or write the credit bureaus and pester them until they take it off your reports)

Once again, Tom, you've read my mind. I was searching the forum to find information on what to do with judgments after my case is closed. My lawyer listed it on my petition. Thank you so much for the info! You rock! Yes, it feels good!
