Central District of CA - LA Division

Another poster mentioned some time ago that after filing, it took the above court a very long while to send the official discharge notice -- like six months, and they knew someone else whose time frame was similarly delayed. I was curious whether anyone else can pipe up about their experience in this court. My 60 days are up in a few weeks, but if what I read is true, then I won't be free and clear for some time.

It is my understanding that UP TO the time of discharge, the bankruptcy trustee can file a motion to dismiss for any reason whatsoever, e.g., he finds out you got a high paying job after the 60 days but before discharge, or you relocated some property declared on the schedules and did not amend the schedules to reflect that.

I was told the same thing 6 months. I filed on 03/28/2010 central district Los Angeles. Creditor meeting on 05/07/2010. Last day for objections 07/06/2010. Today I received my discharge paper It was discharged 07/23/2010. So maybe they have cleared the backlog since it was sooner. Good luck!!

Except I was told this today...that it could be six months or longer...therefore the advice to call them once my 60 days have passed. That's interesting. You got your discharge 17 days after the 60 days were up.

I guess I will err on the side of caution and call them anyway when the time comes. Thanks.

Mine was over 6 months from filing to discharge in Central District. They are way behind - hopefully it won't be too much longer for you. I think as long as you are still not discharged, the Trustee is in charge of your estate, etc. But I wouldn't worry too much - unless you win that lottery. But then, you'd have the cash to pay your creditors! Win/win!
        11/09 - Ran out of money - 1/4/10 - Filed Chapter 7 (Pro-Se) - 2/16/10 - 341 Meeting -6/17/10 - Reaffirmation hearing (auto) - DISCHARGED 7/6/10m CLOSED 7/26/10

Our 341 meeting was scheduled 6 weeks from our filing so we are expecting it to take a little longer for the discharge. Our attorney originally told us in May that it would take about 90 days from the 341 meeting to get the discharge because of the furloughs. So the workload and furloughs are probably going to drag it out.

Update: I was discharged on the 10th, and the Court mailed out my official notice of discharge two days later. So much for the delay. NOT. They were ON top of things.

Glad to hear it, beats the long wait time they told us, welcome to the club!!! It should go to closed status a couple of days after discharge. Go and enjoy life again, I am.

You mean I am not done? I need to make sure it's 'closed'? Is that a separate notice from the notice of discharge? Thanks!

Yeah, it's finally sinking in that I am FREE from being a slave to the banks. Yes!
