How should I surrender my car now that I have been discharged?

We got another vehicle to replace the car we are surrendering so I am curious how I should surrender the car?

    1. Leave in the driveway and wait for the repo
    2. Call them and offer to drop it off at the dealership, (it is financed at the dealer and not a typical lender)
    3. Call them and tell them to come get it

Since we filed bankruptcy I have never heard a word from them. Not a phone call or anything in the mail ever form them.

I called them the day after we were discharged and asked them what was their procedure for getting the car back to them. They were very nice and said that since this was considered a voluntary repo they would have somebody call me to arrange a pick up time. I got a phone call a couple days later and a guy came to my house and picked the car up. It wasn't a bad experience at all. Matter of fact I asked him about what it was like being a repo guy and he shared lots of stories with me. Some were pretty hair raising and funny.

Just call whoever is the lienholder and ask them what the procedure is. Just make sure you have everything that you want out of the car first.

As bluejeans said, call the dealer. Actually he is less interested but do this first. Then the lender who is not the dealer. They go through a secondary lender, trust me. If they show no interest, keep it insured, and keep driving it. That is not illegal. Put miles on that car, not yours. 'Hub

Also a little CYA here I forgot to add...

When/if you get an appointment to have somebody pick the car up be sure and call your insurance company to tell them when it is scheduled for pick up and then call them immediately after the car has left your possession to prevent any BS claims from popping up.
