So, I understand that the discharge deadline is 60 days after the first scheduled 341 meeting. However, I've heard that it often takes longer than 60 days for the case to be formally discharged. If it takes, say, 70 days for the case to be discharged, can a creditor still file an objection during those "extra" 10 days? Or, do they still only have until day 60, even if the formal discharge takes longer to process (by the clerk's office or whatever)?

It usually takes 60 days from the 341 meeting date. However, there could be circumstances where the date could be extended - like a lot of cases at the same time as yours could delay discharge due to backlog. Or, like in my case, (day 110), I have a re-affirmation hearing on my car, so my case won't get discharged until after that. Next week! Woot!
As for deadline to file objections - that date is etched in stone. Sign up for Pacer and you can see when that date is - usually 60 days after your 341 hearing.11/09 - Ran out of money - 1/4/10 - Filed Chapter 7 (Pro-Se) - 2/16/10 - 341 Meeting -6/17/10 - Reaffirmation hearing (auto) - DISCHARGED 7/6/10m CLOSED 7/26/10

Does the date for objections by creditors get extended if the trustee extends the deadlines for exemptions? He's extended our deadline for the exemptions until July 21st.. an additional 30 days, so instead of the 60 days, it's now 90 for him to object to those. He's examining my husband's stock options... which we knew would happen.Filed Ch.7 on 03/17

the 60 days are etched in stone, unless someone files a request to extend before the 60 are up, and a judge approves it.
i think the deadlines for exemptions and objection to discharge are separate entities, so extension of one of the deadlines would not alter teh other deadline.filed ch7 May 09
