    Cell phone contracts after filing?

I will do some digging around on this topic tonight (after the kids go to bed) but has anyone gotten a cell contract after filing (during or after discharge of 7) w/o some crazy deposit?

I am filing on Friday (I think) and my cell contract is up but it's a family plan & my spouse's line isn't up until Sept 28 & there is a $100 cancellation fee (t-mobile). I was considering changing to AT&T but wonder if I need to just do it now and pay the cancellation fee vs not being able to switch providers down the road.

    Thanks!

I have AT&T. I had to add them in the BK since I am still in contract. From my understanding as long as I am current on my payments they will not cancel my contract.

I would go ahead and get the phone now before you file BK. As long as you are not spending a lot of money the trustee shouldn't look twice.

Also I have not been locked out of my account to pay online like some of other companies do once you file BK.
I do use my phone for school, work, and my home service. So I need my phone.

If you don't actually need a contract per se, and are in the area where Verizon Wireless has good coverage, try these guys out:

I got my wife a phone through them, no contract, VZW service, very good rates IMHO.

      Good luck.
No person in their right mind files a Ch. 13 with lien strip pro se. I have. Therefore, please consider me insane and clinically certifiable when reading my posts, and DO NOT take them as legal advice of any kind.Thank you.

Credit checks are run by the major phone companies so trying to obtain a new contract after filing may be difficult and the probability of denial is high. If you currently carry a cell phone contract and are in good standing through your BK and renew when the time comes, you may not have a problem. It's with obtaining new service that may be an issue.

I had verizon before and after the filing. I was (and remain) current with them throughout the process. They were very cooperative. However, they do move your account to the BK dept during the actual BK and you make payments to that dept at a different address.

BTW, they did not run my credit to continue the service. I have since signed a contract with them (every two yrs) and they again did not run my credit. This may have been because I have been a long term customer (about 10 yrs) and never been late with a payment. You might want to consider either the pay as you go plans as suggested above or getting service prior to filing.
