    Filed! What's Next?

I believe I read somewhere on here that there was a course I have to take within a certain number of days after filing. Is this correct? Or was it after the Creditor's meeting? I'm sure the law firm will let me know, but I wanted to get a head start on the info. Thank you.

You have to take two courses. One is before you file if I remember (haven't filed yet) and one is after the 341 within a certain time frame.

    Others will know more.

Debtor Education. We are going to get it taken care of before the 341 but you have a certain amount of time to complete it afterwards before you can be discharged.

Our attorney set up an account online for us to take both courses with the same company and he paid the fee (from the fee we paid him undoubtedly). I have the log in info and just need to sit down with my husband to complete it.

We also got a list of info we needed to gather to bring with us to the 341. I'm sure it varies by district but it was things like the bank statements that covered the file date and receipts from how the tax refund was spent. Simple stuff.

      Otherwise sit back and wait.

Thank you both. Yes, I took the required counseling course before filing, but was curious about when I had to take the second course. I'll wait for instructions from the law firm, but from what you say Blessed, it doesn't seem to be that it will be difficult.

You are correct about the credit counseling before filing. The debtor's education can be taken anytime after filing. You don't have to wait until after the 341. At least, where I filed. My attorney had me take it before the 341. And the Trustee did ask me if I had taken it at my 341.

I recommend you check with your lawyer before taking anything online or otherwise. Some districts are specific on which vender you have to take it through. I know in our district there is only one vender approved. The cost was $65 a person. Good luck to you.
