Is it ok for me to enter in a new cell phone contract prior to my Chapter 7 discharge? My cell phone carrier is aware of my bankruptcy and has approved it.

Open a cell phone account should be alright as you are not taking out a loan or opening a credit account. A contract only states that you agree to use their service for a period of time. If you don't you will have to pay a pre-determined amount of money.Chapter 7 filed December 11, 2009, 341 Meeting held on January 7, 2010
Deadline to File a Complaint: March 8, 2010
Discharged and Closed March 11, 2010

Have you considered using Net 10 ? We switched to them from AT&T and am extremely happy. I did a lot of research about the various prepayed companies and decided to use them.
I can buy refill cards at the grocery store, drug store, or even Best Buy. I can refill directly from my phone. Or, if I wanted to, I could do a monthly automatic refill. (I don't like companies having my account info, so I choose to throw in a card when I'm at Publix.)
I love the phone I got and it came with 300 minutes and 60 days of service.
ALL minutes are $0.10/each. Another company had terms I liked but you had to buy the 1-year card to get ten cents a minute. Because I have a certain phone my texts are .03 each. Other phones are 0.05 each.
I love not being tied to a contract. It's saved me and hubby a lot of money since we switched.
Good luck!A mom on the Gulf Coast of FL filing CH7 and blogging about it. http://chapter7beforeandafter.blogspot.com
