Would it be a good idea to offer the trustee $1K for small non-exempt items?

I am wondering. It seems that I have about $3K in hobby/sports equipment that are not exempt, and a home that is just barely over the exemption. Realistically speaking, I doubt the trustee could hire someone to sell the equipment for enough to even pay for the recovery, storage and auction fees, and the likewise the home, especially considering that the trustee might even sell it for less than the exemption (would he have to take money out of his own pocket for that?)

Anyway, I was thinking that since a trustee is paid a flat fee plus a commission on the liquidated assets that is 25% for the first $1K, and then 10% thereafter, he probably would jump at the opportunity at me just offering up $1K flat out, so that he could make the quick $250, rather than risk having to sell everything and ending up with little or nothing, especially in light of the fact that he could get 10% of the extra above the $1K. It seems that with this in his back pocket, he would be highly motivated to see the case through.

What do you think? $1K for piece of mind sounds pretty good to me.

You may want to just wait and see what the trustee says. He may not bother at all with your non-exempt assets if he doesn't feel it's worth his time, or, as in our case, make you an offer to buy them back (for less than the non-exempt amount).

It appears that my trustee has already decided that I am a "no asset" case, so I guess that means he will not be looking for anything.
