When you are married & filing jointly, do you pay 2 filing fees and two attorney fees? I tried searching & googling but couldn't find a direct answer. I have my budget expecting this, but would like to know.
Thanks!

With our BK we (my hubby & I) paid one flat fee and filing fee. Make sure to tell the attorney your exact situation so the fees do not increase. I had forgotten about 3 creditors and my attorney wanted to add additional fees but her office made a minor paperwork error which delayed my discharge so she did not charge me.
My advice is to call at least three experts in your area so you have a better understanding of what you will have to budget for. When I searched out my attorney I found that some were priced up to $1500 more then others…so be careful. In the end we went with a recommendation and her fees fell right in the range I was willing to pay.
I do plan on meeting with 4 or 5 attorneys, all who have the free initial consultation. I have all of our creditors & amounts owed to them listed in a spreadsheet and have begun finding their correspondence addresses. I'll definitely make sure I have everything for them to see that first time. I just wanted to be informed beforehand.
