    What's considered better?

Bad credit or a Chap 7 discharge?

I know not to have bad credit to begin with but sometimes "Life" happens.

What's worse is BAD Credit AFTER Ch 7 discharge. Death.

If you file Ch 7 and get discharged and successfully build some decent trade lines over the following 2 to 3 yrs, you will be good as new; practically. Will be able to purchase a home or car at decent int rates 3 yrs out, if all credit is spotless after your discharge.

Bad credit w/o filing is ok too, as long as you don't want or need any new credit and as long as you are not collectible (no w-2 income or live in a state that doesn't allow garnishment). Barring that, you are better to be discharged Ch 7 and rebuilding from there, IMO.
