    Chase will not give out statements free of charge!

    I have 2 accounts with Chase that as of today have been closed. I was told by my attorney that I need to get statements from all my non-exempt accounts. I contacted Chase to get statements for these accounts and was told that I would need to pay a fee of $6 (each!) for them. I mentioned to the representative (actually a "supervisor") at Customer Service that these statements are needed for a court case, but was still denied. I told the representative to send me something in writing saying that I am being denied these statements free of charge.

    So how is this going to affect my case? What should I do?

    I wouldn't hold your breath getting anything on the denied statements. Either that they might charge you $12 to give you a letter denying you the statements for free.

    Do you have the last statement that was sent to you? Even if the account is closed, they should still send you monthly statements as they are looking for their money.

    If they aren't, do you have the last statement they did send you?

      All the statements were online. When the accounts were canceled, the statements were not accessible.

      Shouldn't I be able to just tell the trustee that Chase simply won't give me the statements? Then he can write Chase a nasty letter demanding them. Coincidentally, Chase is the largest creditor.

        This is one of the reasons we suggest downloading all the statements before closing the accounts and/or stopping payments on the accounts.

        I know it is too late for you OP, but for others reading the thread in the future, download as far back as you can, each and every statement for every account to your hard drive before you stop paying on your accounts. This is not limited to Chase. The creditors will not allow you access after non-payment for X days (this varies from creditor to creditor). Be pro-active. If your Trustee doesn't require the statements then you have only wasted a little time saving the information. However, if they do require statements, and you don't have them, it will be very costly for you. Costly in terms of getting the information as the OP posts.

          Shame on Chase. I followed the advise from this forum and downloaded all of my statements so that I would have them. It was nice to have filling out my paperwork before filing. But the trustee never asked to see them nor my attorney. So it must depend case by case state by state.

            I have gotten all my statements in the past by sending the OC a DV letter. They validated by sending all the statements. :-)

            The OC?

            Chase.

              Our bank was the same way, I just paid it, the small fee was worth what the end result is.

                One clarification here....download all your statements for each bank account and for each creditor.

                  DV = debt validation letter?

                  I am referring to a savings and checking account, not the credit card accounts.
