I haven't filed chap 7 yet. But I was able to open up a new checking and savings account at a local credit union over the phone. But I'm not sure if they ran my credit report. I'm sure they must have.

I would work fast to open a savings and checking before you file BK at a bank that you don't have any credit cards with and I would stay away from the big banks.
This isn't legal advice, I'm in the same boat you are.

Stopped paying / using credit cards march 1st.

I've never heard of a bank running a credit report for someone opening a checking account. I have heard that credit unions are different than banks and many times if you borrow money from them they intertwine your checking and savings account so if you default on a loan they will take that money. I've read stories of this happening. Another thing credit unions do is if you take out an automobile loan and they give you a credit card also there is a clause in your contract if you default on one or the other you are responsible for the entire amount. The careful as credit unions are a whole different animal.
