Redact ALL Social Security Numbers AND Account Numbers?

I read that we should only show the last four digits of the debtor's social security number on all the forms, given that this become part of the public record.

Is this on all forms, to include the 'Statement of Social Security Number and the schedule with all the account numbers?

If we redact most of the account number for each account, I was just wondering how they line up the account to the debtor when it comes times to dischange...simply by querying by name, address, and last fou, I assume?

So don't show ANY full account numbers and only the last 4 of the social?

Is there a best practice for the accounts...only the last 4 shown, as well?

Before I stopped paying, if I wanted information from Discover regarding my balance, all I had to give them was the last 4 digits of my social, the last 4 digits of my account number and my zipcode and they were able to pull up the info.

I redacted entirely my kids' ssn from the tax returns (they aren't the ones filing bankruptcy) and schedules, everything else I just left the last 4 digits.

I wouldn't have even thought of this. Thanks for bringing it up. Is this something your attorney would/should advise you to do, or did you find out on your own, Walter?

Your district's local rules may mention how they want things redacted. Also, if I recall correctly, when you log into PACER, it mentions something about redaction. I've seen different advice about this from different places.

I didn't redact my SSN on the 'Statement of Social Security Number' and that form didn't get put on PACER at all in my petition bundle.

The usual way of lining up the account to the debtor is that the court's notification to creditors of your voluntary petition includes your name, address, and SSN. That's usually enough for them to easily pull your file up.

For account numbers, I figured I didn't care about the ones that were closed / defunct anyway.
