I have been looking around here since the summer. I had my hours cut at work, then laid off in October. Began work within a few weeks, but less than I was making. We roughly have $40,000 in credit card debt. We got into this mess due having 2 house payment for almost 2 years, due to this wonderful housing market, but yet the bank allowed my hubby to lease a new vehicle with having 2 house payments and he was a co-signer on my lease at the time.
I have already met with attorney the initial consult. We have to take care of some home repairs before we can file as we will need to use our refunds. We will keep the home, having small children, I am not moving them again, we just moved here 2 1/2 years ago, but not reaffirm it so we are not on the hook if it goes bad down the road. We will keep my hubbys car, its a lease and he needs to get to work or unless we can come up with another reliable car for him. He goes to work sometimes 3 in morning, and with the snow he needs something reliable The lease is up in 2011. We had the pleasant experience of the repo man showing up today. They repo man was very nive though, he's just doing his job. They did not take it as I begged and pleaded with the financing company to let me make the past due payment (2 months worth). I ran to the store and did a wire payment and called with the confirmation as soon as I made the payment. I made a payment on it Friday, but did not call the financing compay with the confirmation no. from the wire transfer that I made on that day. Even though they received the payment, they still set it for repo.
What happens when you file and when you are discharged, meaning how do I pay my bills, will I have spending money for day care, gas, groceries?
This sight has been really informative, the "checklist" was great. its nice to know there other out there going through the same thing, I don't feel so alone anymore.
Any input, thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
