    Would you consider these luxuries?

Before I even ask this may be a really stupid question but I am so afraid of spending money on the wrong things and getting in trouble that I have to ask. We are getting a tax refund this year and we want to spend some of it before we file so we are going to do practical things with it like pay up our property taxes, car insurance, house insurance, get the kids some new clothes, glasses pay off the attorney etc but there are two other things we want/need but not sure if these are ok or not.
First we need a new garage door. We have a double door that is broken now (this is the actual door not the opener.) Someone (I won't say who) backed into it and broke it. I realize this may not sound like a big deal but I am in MN and parking in a garage is important! My husband thinks this will cost around 1200 to replace. Could we consider it home maintenance since we are keeping the house?
Second we are in desperate need of a new mattress for our bed. Ours is so old and lumpy that it has caused my husband numerous trips to the chiropractor and now he can't even sleep on it. Probably about $500
Neither of these would be considered fun purchases(by me at least) but aren't really necessary to live either so I just want to make sure I can do this without an issue.

    Thanks

A garage door and a bed are not luxuries! I would just say to be sure that you pay for the things you NEED and keep some of the money for NEEDS before spending it on other things. Sounds like the door and the bed are close to needs, but just be sure. I filed in August and my 2008 refund was never questioned. They are taking a piece of my 2009 refund though.

Thanks for the response. I think we may be able to hold off on the garage door and just get that once we save enough but I think the mattress we will get since it will probably be worth it by saving money at the chiropractor
