why are bank and Sallie Mae limiting access???

So I'm working on my taxes last night and went to Sallie Mae's site so I could print off a copy of the 1098-E and couldn't get in; figured maybe the site was temporarily down.

Just now I tried again and it tells me "we are unable to process your request online" and to call them.

Meanwhile, USAA, with whom we have checking, savings, car insurance, renter's insurance, a Mastercard we stopped paying, and the van loan on which we're surrendering the van, has limited us to the "mobile" view of our accounts.

Why on God's green earth does our access need to be limited to these accounts??? Because I filed I no longer have the "luxury" of viewing my checking, savings, and insurances like every other customer? I just can't think of a legitimate reason why they need to do this.
    1/22/10 - filed Chapter 7 pro se
    3/2/10 - 341 meeting
5/6/10 - discharged and case closed

Zing, I filed on November 3, 2009, and Sallie Mae took away my on-line access in December. Like you I get my 1098-E from the on-line account, but I received a paper copy from Sallie on Thursday of last week... so I should be filing in the morning. Call the 800 number and ask if they sent out a paper copy of your 1098-E.

Never lost my on-line bank/savings account access with BofA and Cap1, also bk'ed on both!

The 'legitimate' reason that lenders and other creditors use to block online access to accounts is the automatic stay that goes into effect when you file. They say that to allow you to see what is still owed on your account is tantamount to asking for payment, which is not allowed after filing.

It's very normal to lose all online access to accounts after filing bankruptcy. If you had filed with a lawyer, he/she would very likely have warned your about this so you could make printouts of all your accounts before you filed.

You can contact the owners of each account to request printouts for the accounts be sent to you in the mail "for informational purposes only". They must provide that if you ask for it. Be sure to ask specifically for what you need to have for your taxes from each account.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

You won't believe this but some companies block the access so you can't make a payment. I had Bank of America as my mortgage holder. My automatic payment came out of my checking account a couple of days before I filed. They mailed it back to me in a check.
