tax filing question after discharge

filed august 2009 discharged dec 2009 no gliches... condo never went into forclosure ... all debts discharged... reaffirmed our car only

getting ready to file 2009 taxes... do you have to say that you filed bankruptcy? (debt forgiven question ...)



does anyone no what extent insolvent means... form 842 irs

I don't believe you have to mark anything about filing for bankruptcy. There isn't any question in turbotax that I've seen that has asked me if I filed for bankruptcy last year.

I think the only time you have to do anything about that is if you get a 1099-C for debt forgiveness... you have to prove you were insolvent and then someone also suggested sending a copy of the discharge papers with the taxes.

thanks so much... we have a guy who does our taxes ... i just wanted to make sure... i didnt get a 1099-C (thank goodness)

i was really surprised how quickly and easily our bk7 went... aside from my worrying ...
way to raise your credit scores (bow) ... trying to figure out how to do that ... we reaffirmed our 2009 dodge journey and it should start reporting soon and i got one of those dumb high fee credit cards... i guess time will tell...

I was surprised as well... I worried and worried and freaked out thinking they were going to scrutinize me and wonder about my expenses etc...but it was a breeze.

LOL...thanks.. I'm not sure how my credit bounced back so fast. I think its because I didn't have anything negative on it before I filed and we purchased a new car a few days after discharge. So, I still had positive trade lines on there. And for some reason, my equifax score has always been soooooo much lower than my trans union score.

I'm nervous about my taxes as well... I'm always afraid I'm going to do something wrong. I got married last year, my spouse immigrated from another country, I filed for bankruptcy, I'm surrendering my home...so much!
