What happens to one's credit report after filing?

    Hi,

My wife and I are filing Chapter 7 in about two weeks. I just had a look at my credit report online. Our mortgage is current but obviously with non-payment to creditors, the "yellow boxes" are showing up and my score is declining.

Just wondering... what happens to the report after a court discharge? I've read references to it being "wiped cleaned" but I wouldn't think that's the case. Is that true? When they say "fresh start" does that mean the creditor default information is removed? (aside from the BK public record recording)

    Thanks

All debts included in your filing will be marked as being included in your Chapter 7 bankruptcy and will stay on your credit reports for 10 years from the filling date. All past due information should/will be eliminated; however, chargeoffs and late payments prior to filing can/will remain.

All of the debts will show that they were included in your BK, but only the BK record itself stays on your report for 10 years....the other debts should still fall off 7 years after the DOFD (date of first delinquency). Everything should show a zero balance after discharge.
