Fee paid to surrender/repo car not part of bk?

I'm filing soon, and I'm dropping off a car to my cu. They tell me I have to drive way, way across town to drop it off at the auto auction or there will be the same fee as if they sent someone to pick it up, and that the fee will not be part of the bk?
Isn't that just added to the deficiency balance and wiped out with the bk? Are they bluffing?
