Opening a account with a creditor Discharged in BK?

I included 2 credit cards from Chase in my BK 7 filing, and have been discharged.

I find out today, that I need a Chase checking account, as a paycheck will be deposited there automatically for a job. Does anybody think I will have a problem opening a account with them, considering the BK?

I know I am not in Check systems or any of that.

    Thanks

I've never heard of a "job" requiring you to open a checking account with a specific bank for a direct deposit. How will this deposit be put there automatically if there's no account yet? I'd ask your employer why there is this need to have Chase.

To your question, I would think it's possible but I'd never do it. There are so many banks to choose from.

I doubt that it would be a problem unless applying for overdraft protection with the account.

I am sorry you have never heard of it, but it happens all the time. This particular job (a new part-time job for me) requires it for payment. The job starts Monday, so the fact that the account does not yet exist, is not a problem. The job pays quite well and I am not going to turn it down for this reason.

I have just never been in this situation, so I thought I was ask.

I had a PT job a couple of years ago that only did direct deposit through a local credit union.

If you're not in ChexSystems you may stand a chance. It'd be interesting to learn how things go for you.

Strange for an employer to demand whom you bank with though! My Chase-customer employer has no trouble direct-depositing into my non-Chase account. I think they kind of suggested once it might be cheaper/easier for them if we also had a Chase account, and we laughed at them given our dislike of Chase.

I am not in checksystems, so that wont be a issue.

I work full time at a bank, and when I hired here (11 years ago) I had to open a account to get direct deposit, as they did not do direct deposits elsewhere. I understand that being as this IS a bank.

Fast forward to now, and this is just a part time job that I am taking (not affiliated with the financial industry) but they insist it must be at Chase. So I will try to open the account Friday or Saturday and update this thread.

                .

Okay, I'll play...what exactly is ChexSystems? How do you get on it?
Just bounce a lot of checks? I don't have any of those...I just am not paying most of the creditors.

I did a quick Search but couldn't find a reference explaining it.

                Thanks!

My impression is: passing bad checks, closing out accounts without making overdrawn balances good, that kind of thing. I don't think credit card activity usually impacts it, it's more a system for banks to keep track of whom they'd not want as account holders.

You are correct. It is a system in which banks have access to and they report about bad account holders. If you are in checksystems, say for having a account with ABC bank with a balance in the negative, without making good after a period of time...they list you in there. Then if you go to DEF bank and try to open a account, they look in the system. If you are there, they will not open that account for you until you go back to ABC bank and make good on it.

Credit card activity should have no bearing on it, nor should BK.

                      Update:
I had no problems opening a new checking account with Chase. Nothing was ever said about the BK. So if y'all ever need to open a account with them after the BK, you should have have problems due to the BK.

Of added interest, the person that opened my account asked if I had a "coupon code". It seems if a new account is opened with them (and you have the code) they will give you $100. I was given until tomorrow to give them the 16 digit number off the mailing, to get the hundred bucks. So...if anyone has a advertisement mailing from them, please PM me the code if you are not using it. ...PLEASE!! As much interest as I have paid them over the years, I want this money! Lol!!
